Nexium 24HR is for short-term treatment of reflux or heartburn that is reflux-related. You may also be prescribed for occasional mild heartburn. It contains esomeprazole (Nexium 24HR) to treat intense heartburn because excessive stomach acid can cause heartburn.
Nexium 24HR Once-Daily dosing
Once-week Nexium 24HR tablets may be given twice a day to again once per day
Nexium 24HR Once-Year dosing
Nexium 24HR once-year tablets may be given once a week by using a special dosing schedule to ensure once-year Nexium treatment. For Nexium 24HR tablets to remain effective for up to 20 days, you must have 20 24HR continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (ACOPD) failure or anastrozole (Ajroal®) failure.
The daily Nexium dose for up to 4 weeks is set at 20 mg esomeprazole (20mg every 8 hours) and 20 mg azithromycin (5mg azithromycin every 4 hours) in two tries.
Continue using your Nexium treatment for 4 more weeks, or if you have failed, continue as needed for mild or occasional heartburn.
Do not stop treatment without ever consulting your doctor.
Esomeprazole + azithromycin
Esomeprazole + azithromycin may be used together if needed6 hours (824.5 hours) after the previous meal to be on the first day, and after the next meal at least 8 hours after the previous meal to be on the first day.
If needed, your dose of esomeprazole + azithromycin may be increased by 6 hours (64 hours) after the previous meal to be on the first day, and after the next meal at least 8 hours after the next meal to be on the first day. Nexium 24-Hour Review Tablets 20mg and 40mg is primarily indicated for: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) Relief from acid-reflux Medicine for Adults and Children and Elderly Patients with Esophageal Reflux Disease in Special Populations (GERD Relief from Acid Reflux) The recommended dose is 20 to 40 mg per day for the first 3 days, followed by 20 to 40 mg per day for maintenance therapy. The recommended dose is refilled 20 to 40 mg per day for 2 to 3 days. Maintenance Therapy: 20 to 40 mg daily for at least 3 days.
Take this medication as advised by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet. If your doctor has prescribed this medication to you, then follow the dosage instructions exactly. Do not take it with other medicines containing nelfinavir (e.g. ritonavir) or other similar medications (e.g. indinavir, itraconazole). Taking it with alcohol may cause dizziness. Patients who are having trouble swallowing tablets should use the full course of treatment even if they feel better, as some tablets may not work as well. Do not use for more than 3 days without medical advice. If you need to undergo surgery or do not get an erection after 30 minutes of alcohol consumption, then take this medication only when prescribed by a doctor. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

Side effects may be mild to moderate in nature. The following are some of the most common: Headache, Diarrhea, Dizziness, Nausea, Vomiting, Abdominal Pain, Rashes, Seizures, Drowsiness, Tremors, Hearing loss, Muscle pain, Vision changes, Hearing loss, Skin rashes, and Yellowing of the eyes and skin.
Patients with liver or kidney disease. Nexium 24-Hour Review Tablets 20mg and 40mg should not be used in patients with these conditions.
